What rheumatic diseases are and why they affect any age

When we hear "rheumatism", we tend to think of older people and aching bones. The reality is much broader: the term rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases covers more than 200 conditions that can appear at any age, including childhood and youth.

Much more than wear and tear

Rheumatic diseases affect the joints, muscles, bones and connective tissue, but many of them are autoimmune and inflammatory diseases that can also involve other organs. Rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, spondyloarthritis, juvenile idiopathic arthritis and fibromyalgia are just a few examples.

Why early detection matters

An early diagnosis and a multidisciplinary approach decisively improve quality of life. That's why we insist on listening to your body and seeking medical advice for persistent symptoms: joint pain, morning stiffness, fatigue or swelling.

  • Pain or stiffness in the joints, especially on waking.
  • Swelling or inflammation that doesn't go away.
  • Intense, persistent fatigue.

At Fundación Rheumatos we work so that no one has to face this journey alone. If you have questions or need guidance, write to us.
